The Big Five model
The Big Five describes personality through five dimensions studied for over sixty years: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and emotional sensitivity (also called neuroticism). Each is a continuum: you sit somewhere between two poles, with no "good" or "bad" end.
| Dimension | Low score | High score |
|---|---|---|
| Openness | practical, values routine | curious, creative |
| Conscientiousness | spontaneous, flexible | organized, persistent |
| Extraversion | reserved, independent | sociable, energetic |
| Agreeableness | direct, frank | cooperative, kind |
| Emotional sensitivity | calm, steady | sensitive, vigilant |
How the score is calculated
Each dimension is measured by 8 statements rated from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). For statements worded in reverse, the rating is flipped: 5 becomes 1.
\[ \text{score} = \dfrac{\text{average of the} \ 8 \, \text{answers} - 1}{4} \times 100 \]
Under 40: low tendency. 40 to 61: middle range. 62 and up: high tendency. These cutoffs are indicative.
