How your exact age is calculated

Your age is the number of full years, months and days since you were born. The calculator steps forward month by month from your birth date until the next step would pass the target date. The leftover is your days.

age = full months ÷ 12 (years) + remaining months + remaining days

Everything uses calendar dates, so daylight saving time never shifts the answer by a day. If your birth day does not exist in a month (the 31st in a 30-day month), the last day of that month is used.

Born on February 29: when is your birthday?

Common years have no February 29. Most U.S. states treat a leap-day birthday as February 28 or March 1 in those years, so the calculator lets you pick. Either way you are one year older by March 1.

No, on purpose. Only the calendar date matters. Age is counted from date to date with no clock time, so a daylight saving shift cannot change your result.
