Online dice roller

Pick a die (d4 to d100), how many to roll and an optional bonus, then click to roll. The six-sided die tumbles in 3D and the other dice show their value. The total is added for you and every face has exactly the same chance. You can also type notation such as 2d6+3.

Fair dice
Every roll uses your browser's cryptographic random generator. For an n-sided die, leftover values are discarded to avoid modulo bias, so each face comes up with probability \( \dfrac{1}{n} \).
\[ \text{total} = \text{sum of the dice} + \text{modifier} \]
| Die | Values | Average |
|---|---|---|
| d4 | 1 to 4 | 2.5 |
| d6 | 1 to 6 | 3.5 |
| d8 | 1 to 8 | 4.5 |
| d10 | 1 to 10 | 5.5 |
| d12 | 1 to 12 | 6.5 |
| d20 | 1 to 20 | 10.5 |
| d100 | 1 to 100 | 50.5 |
Odds with two dice
With 2d6 the sums are not equally likely: there are 36 combinations and 6 of them make 7.
| Sum | Combinations | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 2 or 12 | 1 | 2.8% |
| 3 or 11 | 2 | 5.6% |
| 6 or 8 | 5 | 13.9% |
| 7 | 6 | 16.7% |
That is why 7 is the most common roll in craps and Monopoly.
Tabletop dice notation
The notation XdY+Z means: roll X dice with Y sides and add Z. So 3d8+2 gives a total from 5 to 26. For board games, roll one or two six-sided dice; in Dungeons & Dragons the d20 handles checks and attacks and the d100 handles percentage tables.
3 real-life examples
Double sixes
You roll 2d6 and get \( 6 + 6 = 12 \). Double sixes have a 1 in 36 chance, or 2.8%.
A d20 check with a bonus
In a tabletop game you roll d20+4 and get \( 13 + 4 = 17 \). A natural 20 sets off confetti.
Damage with 3d6
You type 3d6: \( 4 + 2 + 6 = 12 \). The average for that roll is 10.5, and the tool shows each die.
