Convert a PDF to JPG or PNG images

Drop your PDF, pick JPG or PNG, choose a resolution (150 dpi works for screens, 300 dpi for printing) and the pages you want, then click Convert. Each page becomes an image you can download alone or all together in a ZIP. Rendering happens in your browser, so your PDF isn't uploaded to any server.

📌 Key facts
- To convert a PDF to JPG, the browser draws each page onto a blank surface and saves it as an image.
- Four resolutions: 72, 150, 200 and 300 dpi; a Letter page is 1,275 x 1,650 px at 150 dpi and 2,550 x 3,300 px at 300 dpi.
- JPG quality runs from 50 to 100% (90% by default); PNG is lossless but often 2 to 5 times heavier.
- The Pages field accepts ranges like 1-3, 5; left blank, it converts the whole document.
- The PDF can be up to 300 MB, and a giant page is scaled down past 16 million pixels.
- Nothing is uploaded: the PDF stays on your device, even with a password.
How to convert a PDF to JPG
Your browser draws each PDF page onto a blank surface, the way a PDF viewer does, then saves the drawing as an image. Because a PDF is vector-based, you choose the resolution: the higher it is, the sharper and heavier the image.
\[ \text{pixels} = \text{size in inches} \times \text{dpi} \]
| Resolution | Letter page in pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 72 dpi | 612 × 792 | Thumbnail, web preview |
| 150 dpi | 1,275 × 1,650 | On-screen reading, email |
| 200 dpi | 1,700 × 2,200 | Fine text, slideshows |
| 300 dpi | 2,550 × 3,300 | Printing, archiving |
JPG or PNG?
- JPG: smaller files, ideal for pages with photos. Quality 90% is nearly indistinguishable from the original. Very fine text can show a faint halo at low quality.
- PNG: lossless and crisper for text, diagrams, and screenshots, but much heavier (often 2 to 5 times) on photo pages.
The background is white in both cases. The PDF's text becomes part of the image: it is no longer selectable or searchable.
Protected and very large PDFs
If the PDF needs a password to open, the tool asks for it and never sends it anywhere. Pages are drawn one at a time and freed from memory as it goes, so a document with hundreds of pages works fine, but pick 150 dpi over 300 dpi to go faster. An oversized page (blueprint, poster) is scaled down automatically past 16 million pixels.
How to convert a PDF to JPG in 4 steps
- First, drop your PDF (up to 300 MB) in the box above.
- Next, choose JPG or PNG, then a resolution: 72, 150, 200 or 300 dpi.
- Then enter the pages you want, such as 1-3, 5, or leave it blank for everything.
- Finally, click Convert and download the images one by one or as a ZIP.
To convert a PDF to JPG with no surprises, test a single page first. That way you see the sharpness before you run the whole document.
File size when you convert a PDF to JPG
| JPG quality | Look | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 50 to 70% | Light, softer details | Thumbnail, web preview |
| 80 to 90% | Very close to the original | On-screen reading, email |
| 95 to 100% | Heavier file | Printing, archiving |
When you go from 150 to 300 dpi, a page holds four times as many pixels. So each image gets much heavier. If you only want to share a PDF as JPG on social media, 150 dpi is enough.
Common mistakes when you turn a PDF to JPG
- Forgetting the Pages field, so the tool converts the whole document.
- Choosing 300 dpi for a quick share, which makes files heavy for no reason.
- Picking PNG for a photo page, when JPG is far lighter.
- Hoping to copy the text, because an image holds only pixels.
For example, with an 8-page contract, convert only the signed page. Then you get a single image, with no ZIP. If the PDF has a password, type it in: the tool never sends it anywhere.
What to do with your images after the PDF to JPG conversion
Once your pages are JPGs, you can edit them or put them back together. Everything stays simple, since each image is an ordinary file.
- To rebuild a document from the images, use JPG to PDF.
- To pull out a few pages without converting them, try split PDF.
- To slim down the original file, go through compress PDF.
- To get editable text back, use PDF to Word.
Finally, if you need to combine several documents before converting, start with merge PDF.
3 real-life examples
A lecture page for a slideshow
You want page 4 of a handout as an image for a presentation. Type 4 in Pages and choose JPG at 150 dpi: you get a 1,275 × 1,650 px image, sharp enough for a Full HD screen.
An 8-page contract to archive
As PNG at 200 dpi, each page is 1,700 × 2,200 px. The 8 images are bundled in a ZIP named after your file, with names like contract-page-1.png through contract-page-8.png.
An oversized poster
A 36 × 48 in poster is 2,592 × 3,456 points. At 300 dpi it would be about 155 million pixels, far more than a browser can handle, so the tool lowers the resolution to roughly 16 million pixels and tells you.
