Instagram image sizes
Instagram displays images at a width of 1080 px. Only the height changes by format. The 4:5 portrait takes up more room in the feed, but the profile grid crops it to a square.
| Format | Size | Aspect ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Square post | 1080 × 1080 px | 1:1 |
| Portrait post | 1080 × 1350 px | 4:5 |
| Story, Reel | 1080 × 1920 px | 9:16 |
| Landscape post | 1080 × 566 px | 1.91:1 |
Placing text so nothing gets cut off
- Leave a margin of about 54 px around text: the white guide shows it.
- In portrait, keep the key message inside the central 1080 × 1080 px square (yellow guide), or the profile grid will crop it.
- For stories, avoid the top and bottom 250 px, where your name and the reply bar appear.
- A headline of 6 to 10 words in big letters reads better than a paragraph.
Make your post in three steps
Pick one of the nine templates and a palette, fill in the headline, text, badge and handle, then adjust each element with your finger or mouse. Add your photo in a “+” frame or with the Image button. Download as a JPG (light, ideal for phones) or a PNG. Your design is saved on your device.
