📌 Key facts

- Print shops usually ask for 0.125 in of bleed on every side of the card.
- Keep text at least 0.14 in from the edge so the trim never cuts it.

- A two-sided card exports as a two-page PDF: contact details on the front, logo on the back.
Business card size in the US
The standard US card is 3.5 × 2 in, or 1050 × 600 pixels at 300 dpi. Print shops usually want an extra 0.125 in of bleed on each side. Keep text at least 0.14 in from the edge so it never gets trimmed.
| Format | Inches | Pixels at 300 dpi |
|---|---|---|
| US standard | 3.5 × 2 | 1050 × 600 |
| With 0.125 in bleed | 3.75 × 2.25 | 1125 × 675 |

Front, back and crop marks
The front carries your name, title and contact details. The back repeats your logo and website so people remember the brand. Add the back with the “+ Back” button: the PDF then has two pages, one per side. With crop marks on, each page keeps a 0.4 in margin with corner marks.
What belongs on a business card
- Name and job title, set larger than everything else.
- One main way to reach you: phone or email, then your website.
- Your logo or an icon so the brand is recognizable.
- White space: a crowded card is hard to read at 2 in tall. For a direct link, add a QR code made with our custom QR code generator.
Business card layout: what goes on the front and back
A business card exists to be remembered. So every line should help the reader contact you.
- First, put your name and job title on the front in the largest type.
- Next, add one phone number or email, then your website.
- The back can hold your logo, a tagline or a QR code.
- Finally, leave white space, because a crowded card reads badly.
For example, a contractor lists a trade and a city on the front. Then the back shows only the logo. If you need one, try the logo maker.
Printing a business card: stock, finish and file
Paper changes the result a lot. If you are unsure, ask the print shop for a sample first.
| Choice | Effect | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Matte 16 pt stock | Clean look, easy to write on | Best for meetings |
| Glossy stock | Vivid color, some glare | Avoid small light text |
| Soft-touch laminate | Velvety feel | Costs more |
| Rounded corners | Modern look | Keep text away from corners |
Then upload the 300 dpi PDF, with crop marks if the shop wants them. Last, check your colors, because a screen never matches ink exactly.
Business card mistakes that cost you a reprint
A few errors come up again and again. However, you can fix each one in two minutes before printing.
- Setting type too small: below 7 points, contact details become hard to read.
- Pushing text to the edge, because the trim can shift by a hair.
- Skipping bleed, so a thin white line shows after cutting.
- Listing four phone numbers, because nobody knows which one to call.
- Using a blurry photo when a sharp file matters more.
Also proofread your email address twice. One wrong letter makes the card useless.
Using your business card well
A card works best next to other materials. That way, your brand looks consistent everywhere.
For a direct link to your site, build a code with the custom QR code generator. In addition, print matching shipping labels with the label maker. If you run a booth, add a flyer made with the poster and flyer maker.
Always keep ten or so cards in your wallet. When a chance comes up, you do not have to search. Finally, update the file whenever your details change, then reorder a small batch.
