How to paraphrase text well
To paraphrase is to say the same thing in other words and with a different sentence structure. The tool offers six styles:
| Style | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Changes words and phrasing, same register | Avoiding repetition |
| Formal | Polished, professional register | Emails, letters, reports |
| Simple | Everyday words, short sentences | Making a text clearer |
| Friendly | Warm, natural tone | Messages, newsletters, social posts |
| Shorter | About half the words, key points kept | Summaries, character limits |
| Longer | A bit more detail and smoother transitions | Fleshing out a paragraph |
Rewrite without changing the meaning
A good paraphrase keeps names, numbers and quotations exactly as they are. Always read the result: an AI can flatten a nuance or get a technical term wrong. Check in particular:
- figures, dates and proper names;
- terms from your field (legal, medical, scientific) that shouldn't be swapped;
- tone: a casual phrase may become stiff in formal style.
Paraphrasing a source does not replace citing it. If you build on someone else's ideas in a paper or article, give them credit.
Limits and privacy
- Length: 4,000 characters per request, roughly 650 words.
- Quota: 10 rewrites per day per connection, to keep the tool free.
- Language: the result is written in the language of the page, here American English.
- Privacy: your text is passed to an AI service for the time it takes to rewrite it, and Outilix doesn't save it. Avoid pasting very sensitive information such as passwords or health records.
3 real-life examples
Cut repetition in an essay
You wrote: "This book is interesting. This book is also easy to read. This book appeals to teens." In standard style you get varied sentences that no longer repeat "this book" three times, with the same meaning.
Make an email more formal
"Hey, can you send me that quote again?" becomes, in formal style, something like "Hello, could you please resend the quote when you have a moment?"
Shorten to meet a word limit
Your 120-word text has to fit a 60-word bio. In "shorter" style the tool keeps the key ideas and drops secondary details. Then check the result with the word counter.
