Website screenshot of any public page by URL

Paste the address of a public page to take a website screenshot. A headless Chrome browser loads it, scrolls through it so lazy images appear, then captures it as PNG or JPG. You choose the width, desktop or mobile view, and full page or visible screen only. The image isn't stored after you download it.

The settings explained
| Setting | Values | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Format | PNG or JPG | PNG for sharp text, JPG (quality 85) for a smaller file |
| Width | 768, 1280 or 1920 px | 1280 for a laptop, 1920 for a large monitor |
| Device | Desktop or mobile | Mobile = a 390 px phone screen at high density with a mobile browser |
| Range | Full page or screen only | Full page is capped at 12,000 px tall |
The browser scrolls the page before capturing so lazy-loaded images appear. Sticky menus can show up in the middle of the image.
Safety and limits
Only public http or https pages on ports 80 and 443 are accepted. Local or private addresses (localhost, 127.x, 10.x, 192.168.x, 169.254.x, local IPv6) are refused, including after a redirect. Limits: 25 seconds and 12 captures per hour per person. Pages that need a login show their login screen.
Website screenshot ideas that save time
A website screenshot records what a page looks like today. For example, you may want to show a page to a client, save a price or illustrate a tutorial. Then you download the image and send it.
- Design review: grab the full page and share it with the whole team.
- Mobile check: pick mobile view to see how the page fits a phone.
- Dated proof: keep the image with the date in the file name.
- Tutorial: use screen only for a light image that focuses on the top of the page.
How to get a clean screenshot of a site
First, pick the right format. PNG keeps text sharp, while JPG makes a smaller file. Then set the width for the device you want to show.
| Goal | Format | Width | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client document | PNG | 1280 px | Full page |
| Blog image | JPG | 1280 px | Screen only |
| Phone test | PNG | Mobile | Full page |
| Large monitor | PNG | 1920 px | Screen only |
If images look missing, run the capture again, because the page may have loaded slowly. On a very long site, the 12,000 px cap cuts off the bottom.
What to do with your screenshot next
After the capture, shrink the file with compress image. To keep the page as a document, use HTML to PDF instead. If you want one file that holds several pictures, try JPG to PDF.
Do you already have a PDF? Then PDF to JPG works the other way. Finally, add a QR code to your slide so people can open the page you captured.
Common problems with a website screenshot
A website screenshot fails for the same few reasons. First, the address needs a login, so you get the login page. Then the page loads its images too late. Finally, a sticky menu repeats in the middle of the picture.
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Address refused | Local or private address | Use a public page |
| Picture too short | Screen only selected | Pick the full page |
| Text too small | 1920 px width | Pick 1280 px |
| Long wait | Very heavy page | Try again a little later |
So a website screenshot of a login-only page needs another route. Instead, save the screen from your own browser. Also remember that this tool allows 12 captures per hour, so plan your tries.
Also, name each file with the site and the date, for example by renaming it after the download.
3 real-life examples
Show a client what a site looks like
You capture the home page at 1920 px, full page, as PNG: the image is about 1920 × 5000 px. You can email it or attach it to a report.
Check the mobile layout
With the mobile option on, the capture is 390 px wide (780 px at high density) and shows the phone version of the page, with the "hamburger" menu.
Keep dated proof
A sale price disappears the next day. You capture the visible screen as JPG, which keeps the displayed price. Note the date yourself, it is not printed on the image.
