How to make a good meme
A meme works when the gap between image and text lands instantly. The classic rule: the top text sets up the situation and the bottom text delivers the punchline. Keep it short: 3 to 8 words per line, never more than three lines.
- White letters with a black outline stay readable on any background.
- All caps read faster on a phone.
- One joke per image.
- Put the strongest words in the bottom text.
Original templates, no copyright worries
The 14 templates (cat, robot, volcano, rocket, ghost, cactus, fishbowl…) are drawn by Outilix with code: no protected images and no celebrity photos. You can post your creations without wondering who owns the background.
If you use your own photo, make sure you have the right to use it and the consent of anyone in it. The font is a heavy system font (Impact style), sized automatically so the text fits.
Text size and export
| Setting | Suggested value |
|---|---|
| Text size | 70 to 90 for templates, 60 for photos |
| Lines | 1 to 2 per area (3 at most) |
| Export | PNG, 1,600 × 1,200 px for templates |
The size shrinks on its own when your text is long. PNG is lossless, which is ideal for sharing on social media.
