Pick your city, a date and a time. The converter shows the matching time in every city on your list, with the day, the UTC offset and the difference from your city. It uses your browser's official time zone database, so daylight saving time in each country is applied for the date you choose.

📌 Key facts

  • Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the reference: Eastern Time is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer.
  • The continental U.S. has four main zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, each one hour apart.
  • The U.S. starts daylight saving time on the second Sunday of March and ends it on the first Sunday of November.
  • Europe changes on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October, so the gap with the U.S. shifts for a few weeks.
  • Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, and India stays at UTC+5:30 all year.

How to convert a time between zones

Every city has an offset from UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). To convert, subtract the starting city's offset to get UTC, then add the destination's offset.

\[ \text{destination time} = \text{start time} - \text{start offset} + \text{destination offset} \]

Example: noon in New York in winter (UTC−5) is 17:00 UTC, which is 02:00 the next day in Tokyo (UTC+9). When the result crosses midnight the date changes, and the tool flags it with "+1 day" or "-1 day".

Daylight saving changes the gaps

The U.S. springs forward on the second Sunday of March and falls back on the first Sunday of November. Europe changes on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. For a few weeks the gap between New York and London shrinks from 5 hours to 4.

New York toTypical gapShort-lived gap
London+5 h+4 h (about March 8 to 29, October 25 to November 1)
Paris+6 h+5 h (same weeks)
Los Angeles−3 h−3 h
Tokyo+14 h (winter)+13 h (while the U.S. is on daylight time)

Japan, India, China and most of the Middle East do not change clocks, so their gap with the U.S. shifts by an hour twice a year.

Time zone converter: schedule an international meeting

To set a meeting with colleagues abroad, a time zone converter prevents mistakes. First, pick your city and the time you want. Then add your guests' cities. Next, spot the hours that work for everyone. Finally, send the invite with the zone spelled out.

For example, 3 PM in New York is 12 noon in Los Angeles and 8 PM in London in winter. So the London guest works late. In contrast, 10 AM in New York is 7 AM in Los Angeles, which is early. In fact, overlap between the U.S. East Coast and Europe is narrow, and the West Coast overlap is narrower.

Time zone converter: daylight saving traps

Daylight saving time complicates everything, because countries do not switch on the same day. When you check a gap, always look at the date. In 2026, Europe returns to standard time on October 25, while the U.S. does so on November 1. Between those dates, New York and Paris are only 5 hours apart.

2026 periodGap New York to Paris
January to early March6 hours
March 8 to March 285 hours
March 29 to October 246 hours
October 25 to October 315 hours
From November 16 hours

However, some places, such as Arizona, never change their clocks.

Time zone converter: related tools

To go further, combine several tools. For example, use the countdown timer to follow an event abroad. Then work out the time between two clock times with the hours calculator. Finally, for a long trip, count travel days with the days between dates calculator.

So you can plan a trip with no surprises. Also, write the local time and your own time in your messages.

Finally, keep a short list of the cities you call most. Add your family, your team and your client. Then check that list before every call, and the evening you plan will rarely clash with someone's sleep. A small habit like this prevents most scheduling mix-ups, even across several countries and many clock changes.

Also, write down meeting links, phone numbers and agendas in one note. Share it ahead of each call, and everyone arrives prepared. That extra step takes a minute and saves a long thread of messages afterward, especially when many people join from far apart.

3 real-life examples

1

Noon in New York on October 30, 2026

New York is still on daylight time (UTC−4) until November 1 while Europe is already on winter time. Noon in New York is 5:00 PM in Paris, 4:00 PM in London and 1:00 AM the next day in Tokyo.

2

9 a.m. Pacific, a call with the East Coast

On March 15, 2026, 9:00 AM in Los Angeles is 12:00 PM in New York and 4:00 PM in London (London is still on UTC+0 until March 29). Pick a time when everyone is awake.

3

A time that does not exist

On March 8, 2026 at 2:00 AM in New York, clocks jump to 3:00 AM. Entering 2:30 AM that day shows a warning because that time never happens: the night is only 23 hours long.

Frequently asked questions

What time is it in London when it is noon in New York?
It is 5 p.m. in London most of the year, since the gap is 5 hours. For a few weeks in March and from late October to early November the gap is 4 hours, so enter the exact date to be sure.
How do I calculate the time difference between two cities?
Compare their UTC offsets. New York at UTC−5 and London at UTC+0 differ by 5 hours. The converter does this for you and shows the gap in the Difference column.
Is daylight saving time taken into account?
Yes, for the exact date you enter. The tool relies on your browser's time zone database, which knows each region's rules, including places that never change their clocks.
How do I schedule a meeting across time zones?
Add every city involved, enter the proposed time for your city and check that each local time is reasonable. The "+1 day" marker shows when someone is already on the next date.
What is UTC?
UTC is Coordinated Universal Time, the world reference for clocks. Time zones are written as UTC−5 or UTC+1. In daily use it replaces GMT, which is nearly identical.
